Harmanus and Lucas Hoagland are thought to have lived in New Jersey or Pennsylvania
Scope and Content
Three notebooks comprising 300 manuscript pages of arithmetic, surveying, and commercial accounting methods and calculations. The first notebook (Harmanus Hoagland, 1787-1791) contains all the rules of basic mathematics and advanced problem solving. It also includes sections devoted to commercial calculations. The second notebook (ca. 1800) is devoted to the science of surveying and map making and is an advanced text. The third notebook (Lucas Hoagland, ca. 1825) is devoted to problem solving for commercial transactions.
Arrangement
Manuscripts are arranged alphabetically by the initial topic in each volume.
