An unidentified retail business that conducted business in Pittsylvania County during the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century.
Ledger, 1788-1828, of an unidentified retail business that records the indivdual accounts of customers. Information found in each entry include date of transaction, items purchased, quantity of items purchased, date and form of payment, and total amount owed and paid. Items purchased include wheat, cotton, dry goods, clothing, spices, wool, dishware, iron, alcohol, food, and paper. Items paid by cash, credit, labor such as making clothing, picking cotton, plowing fields, etc., and barter such as corn, calf skin, green apples, and beeswax. There are also entries that refer to hiring out of slaves.
