Scope and Content
Scott County (Va.) List of Free Negroes and Mulattoes within the North District, 1837. Consists of a list of all free negroes and mulattoes in the northern district of Scott County on June 1, 1837, with name, gender, place of abode, and trade, occupation, or calling. Listed are Samuel Pitman, near Osbourne Ford; Edward Grills, of Rye Cove; Spencer Jordan, of Clinch River Cove; Nancy Cravens, of Rye Cove; Fanny, of Clinch River; and Nance, of Clinch River.
