Westmoreland County was named for the English county. It was formed from Northumberland County in 1653, and part of King George County was added later.
Westmoreland County (Va.) Inventory of the Estate of Solomon Redman, 1783 Mar. 25. The inventory is an itemized valuation of Solomon Redman's personal property, taken after his death. The estate was valued at 1,799 pounds. The inventory lists 25 enslaved people by name, as well as horses, livestock, farming implements, and household furnishings.
