The act which established the previous Land Office next hit passed the General Assembly on 22 June 1779. The register was the head of the Office and was appointed by joint ballot of both houses of the legislature.
These records contain lists of caveats dismissed, abated, or determined at various general court sessions. The lists give the names of the disputing parties, the number of acres under dispute, the county in which the land was located, and the determination of the case, i.e., the judgment entered or whether the case was dismissed or abated. The period covered is 1782-1788; the specific sessions occurred in October 1782, October 1783, April and October 1784, April and October 1785, April 1786, April 1787, and April and October 1788.
