The boxes came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court records from Franklin County. Box 1048820 contains records with accession number 23707.
Historical Information
Franklin County was named for Benjamin Franklin. The county was formed from Bedford and Henry counties in 1785. The county court first met on 2 January 1786. Part of Patrick County was added 1 October 1848.
Scope and Content
Franklin County (Va.) Records, 1799-1865, undated, consist of the following series: Tax and Fiscal Records, Marriage Records, Court Records (subfield series include Criminal Records), Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, Business Records, Land Records, County Administrative Records (subfield series include Overseers of the Poor Records), Road and Bridge Records and Wills.
