This box came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of records from Bland County.

Historical Information

Bland County is said to be named for Richard Bland, a leader of colonial Virginia's resistance to Great Britain in the 1760s and 1770s. The county was formed from Giles, Wythe and Tazewell counties in 1861, and another part of Giles county was added in 1900,

Most loose records were destroyed by fire in 1888. All volumes and part of the chancery records were saved.

Scope and Content

Plats are maps, drawn to scale, showing the divisions of a piece of land. Information commonly found in plats are property boundaries, land features, and names of property owners.

This plat was made in connection with a land transaction, estate settlement or court case.

This particular plat was surveyed and drawn by a notable county surveyor, Eugene Mortimer Davidson.
