Abstract
William Lyne Wilson (1843-1900) was a private in the Twelfth Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War; president  next hit of West Virginia University from 1882 to 1883; a member of Congress from 1883 to 1895; postmaster general from 1895 to 1897; author of the Wilson-Gorman Tariff, 1894; and previous hit president  next hit of Washington and Lee University from 1897 to 1900. This collection includes two letters written by Wilson about the 1888 elections, and five copies of printed letters written by Wilson to the Wheeling (W.Va.) Register in defense of changes instituted at West Virginia University during his tenure as previous hit President  next hit.
