Biographical / Historical
William Lyne Wilson (1843-1900) was a private in the Twelfth Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War; president of West Virginia University from 1882 to 1883; a member of Congress from 1883 to 1895; postmaster general from 1895 to 1897; author of the Wilson-Gorman Tariff, 1894; and president of Washington and Lee University from 1897 to 1900.
