Abstract
Two customer credit ledgers of the Harvey & DeQuaise Grocery of Deepwater, Fayette Co. Harvey and DeQuaise were related by
marriage, and both were originally from Fayetteville. They built a permanent structure for their store in 1892 at the C&O
rail head of Deepwater, twenty miles from Fayetteville, in what was then a productive coal mining field. The entries reflect
that the establishment was also a general store carrying items such as nails, seed, and clothing as well as food items.
