Biographical / Historical Note

Thornton was H-SC Class of 1871, Professor of Mathematics 1883-1911, College treasurer, and acting College president  next hit in 1904.

Scope and Contents

Business documents and correspondence of Professor James R. Thornton. There is also correspondence in this box to or from Prof. L.L. Holladay, previous hit President Richard McIlwaine, Col. J.P. Fitzgerald (Clerk of the Board of Trustees), and Mrs. R.L. (Lavinia) Dabney. There are copies of college insurance policies, college deposit slips and receipts, and personal correspondence of Prof. Thornton.
