Bio/Historical Note

During the mid-twentieth century, radio drama was a popular medium of entertainment before the advent of the television. Large industrial companies became eager to sponsor these dramas in order to advertise. "Peggy's Doctor," presented by Blue Coal, was one such drama. The show premiered on October 1, 1934 and the final episode aired in March 1935. It aired on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on NBC Red at 1:15 PM. Each episode was fifteen minutes in length. "Peggy's Doctor" was a romantic drama that revolved around prominent female radio actress, Rosaline Greene, who played the main character Peggy Dale. In the radio drama, Peggy, the daughter of a destitute horse breeder, is courted by a moneyed physician who is working in her hometown in Kentucky. "Peggy's Doctor" was created as a response to an increasingly romanticized view of medical professionals after the WWI. "Peggy's Doctor" also featured African-American actor Ernest Whitman as the character George. The show also cast Wilma Walter, Allyn Joslyn, Ethel Blume, Walter Soderling, Alan Devitt, and James Meighan.
