This collection was donated to the James Madison University Alumni Association by Gillam's daughter, Mary (Gillam) Old, and was subsequently transferred to the Special Collections Library.
Frances Antoinette Lucy Gillam (née Logan) was born February 11, 1921 to Mary Frances (née Randazzo) and Anthony Logan in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania. Gillam attended Madison College during the 1939-1940 academic year. During this time, Gillam took courses in dietetics and was a member of the Porpoise Club. Gillam did not graduate from Madison College, but later earned her degree from Allentown Business College.
Frances Logan married Charles Edward Gillam in January 1944. The couple lived in Oregon and later in Florida. Frances Gillam died on May 10, 1995 and is buried in the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Ocala, Florida.
The Frances Logan Gillam Papers, 1939-1940, contain photographs of the Madison College campus dating to the 1939-1940 academic term and miscellaneous materials from Gillam's time as a student at Madison College. The collection includes 15 photographs, many of which are of sites on the Madison College campus around the year 1940. Photograph subjects include: dorm interiors, building exteriors (Wilson, Alumnae, Spotswood, Reed/Keezell, Sheldon, Cleveland, Jackson, Harrison), May Day, and three photographs of unidentified building exteriors. Some photographs have handwritten labels on the verso.
Also included are one student handbook for the 1939-1940 academic year with annotations. The annotated handbook has a paper cover reading "This book belongs to Miss Frances Logan," followed by her Pennsylvania address. One receipt of tuition paid to Madison College in January 1940 and one program from a Madison College Glee Club Christmas Vesper Concert held on December 17, 1939 are also included.
The collection is arranged topically in two folders. Items are further arranged chronologically when possible.
