Custodial History

The item in this collection belonged to Sandra Lee Phlegar when she was a student at Longwood and was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.


Biographical / Historical

Sandra Lee Phlegar of Forest, Virginia was born in 1941 to Clarence Edward and Thelma Tuck Phlegar. In 1959, she enrolled in Longwood College and graduated in 1963 with a degree in secondary education. While a student at Longwood, Phlegar was a member of the Lynchburg Club, Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Kappa Gamma, the Monogram Club, and the Athletic Association. She was also co-captain of the varsity basketball team, manager of the varsity tennis team, a member of the varsity hockey team and the H2O Club. Additionally, she served on the Student Government Association, was Chairman of the Judicial Board, Chair of the Circus Parade, and was the Secretary of the Southern Intercollegiate Association of Student Governments. In 1963, due to her exceptional contributions to Longwood athletics, Phlegar was awarded the Athletic Association's highest honor, a white blazer.

Scope and Contents

The item in this collection, which dates from 1960, consists of an Alpha Kappa Gamma handbook issued to Sandra Lee Phlegar.
