Custodial History

This freshman "rat cap" beanie, which belonged to Mary Lee Barnes while a student at State Teachers College, was subsequently acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with Longwood University's Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when this collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.


Biographical / Historical

Mary Lee Barnes of Kenbridge, Virginia was born in 1943 to Richard Henry Barnes and Gwendolyn (Berry) Barnes. Barnes attended Longwood College from 1958 to 1962 and earned her bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education.

Scope and Contents

The beanie in this collection, which dates to ca. 1958, was worn by Mary Lee Barnes while a freshman at Longwood College.
