Historical Note

Thomas Boushall founded The Morris Plan Bank (1923-1946; 0.6 cubic feet) of Richmond in 1922, which became The Morris Plan Bank of Virginia in 1928. Boushall also founded the short-lived Retail Acceptance Plan in Norfolk in 1923.

Scope and Contents Note

Three ledger books, a bundle of cancelled checks, and one deposit pass book, all from the Morris Plan Bank of Virginia. The three ledgers contain stock certificates from 1923 (four in number), 1931 (100 in number), and 1933-1934 (25 in number). The bundle of checks are written to a variety of recipients and span the years 1937 to 1946. The undated deposit pass book contains payment slips and schedule for a loan of $100.

Collection also contains a series of papers documenting the 1923 formation and 1926 dissolution of Retail Acceptance Plan, Incorporated. Information on this venture is scarce, but it appears to have been another financial institution involved in purchasing and selling debts, land, stocks, and the like. Thomas Boushall was the President and founder of both Retail Acceptance Plan and The Morris Plan Bank of Virginia, though it's unclear if the two corporations were organizationally linked.
