The University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association Records, #MS-21, Historical Collections, Claude Moore Health Sciences Library, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
The University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association was established in 1949 as an independent organization dedicated to serving the UVA School of Medicine and its alumni. The University of Virginia Medical School Foundation was established separately in 1972; the Foundation operates as the financial arm of the Medical Alumni Association and oversees funding resources. Today the UVA Medical Alumni Association is dedicated to enhancing the experience of students, housestaff, alumni, and faculty of the UVA School of Medicine by creating opportunities for mentoring, networking, scholarship and philanthropy.
The collection includes an extensive Report of the Department of Medicine of the University of Virginia to the Committee of Medical Alumni dated December 15, 1939. In 1939 the University of Virginia Hospital Development Office asked the Medical Alumni Association to assess the needs of each department and lab at the hospital. Related to this effort, the collection includes survey forms, filled out by department chairs, and correspondence. Other materials present in the collection include committee records and related documents, a large set of alumni newsletters (dating from 1948-2019), and alumni directories.
The collection is divided into two series: General Materials and Publications, each series is arranged chronologically.
