Administrative History

The Virginia Gay and Lesbian Student Conference in 1988, which was hosted at the University of Virginia, was the first time that the conference was held and the first time that gay and lesbian students from across the state met to discuss their common concerns. A brochure advertising the conference listed its purpose as having been "cocieved in an effort to unite and mobilize the gay student communites throughout Virginia and the Washington D. C. area". The brochure also lists the goal of the conference as to "encourage a state-wide current of motivation that will effect political and social change, for ourselves and for others".
