Abstract
Transcript of a 1972 interview of Andrew Chafin (1886-1977), great nephew of Devil Anse Hatfield of the Hatfield & McCoy feud, regarding the feud. At age eight years, Chafin was acted as a liaison between his family, the Hatfields, and "civilization". This oral history gives a personal account of the feud from a child's perspective. Names related to the feud and discussed within the interview include: Cap Hatfield, "Devil" Anse Hatfield, and Elias (Ellias) Hatfield, among others. The interview includes the participation of Rayond and Eva Lou Chafin; Andrew and Sarah Chafin; Claude and Tay Chafin; A.L. and Ann Chafin; and Allan, Brad, and Scott Chafin.
