Emeritus of History at Shepherd University. Born of a prominent Clarksburg family, Stealey is known generally for his work
on West Virginia and Appalachia including industrial slavery, antebellum business and industry, and nineteenth century United
States legal history. Collection includes typescript penultimate revision submitted to publisher Kent State University Press
(with handwritten notes), final typescript copy submitted to publisher and anonymous readers, and various sets of revised
proof pages.
