Biographical Note

Georg Klumpp was born in Baden, Germany, around 1832. Sometime prior to 1860, he and his wife Mary immigrated to the United States. By 1860, they were living and working on a farm in Bedminster, New Jersey. Military rosters and census records spelled his name as George [D.] Klump, but it is unclear if it was official changed or anglicized at some point. During the Civil War, Klumpp served with Company B, 3rd Regiment, New Jersey Cavalry. By 1900, Klumpp's wife had died and census records suggest he was living with one of his children.
