According to the 1880 Wythe County census, Ellis Mayo (Mayho), age 11, lived with his mother Hannah Mayo (Mayho), age 33. on Main Street in Wytheville. In the 1910 Wythe County census, Ellis Mayo is listed as living on Calhoun Street, Wytheville, Virginia. He worked as a railroad laborer and his wife, Annie Mayo, worked as a laundress. Their son Robert Mayo (Mayho), age 19, worked as a waiter at a hotel.
