Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church, Manuscript Collection 2003.3, Kegley Library, Wytheville Community College, Wytheville, VA
Donated by Marjorie S. Stone of Athens, Ohio in 2003; she inherited the Records from her grandfather, George S. Davis. Her great-great uncle, F. Grundy Davis, was a trustee of Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church.
Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church was organized by Elijah Hawkins in 1843 and members constructed a frame church building in Groseclose, Smyth County. In 1907 a new church building was built. Pleasant Hill is no longer a practicing parish but the large cemetery across the highway is still maintained.
The Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church records consist of two folders. Folder 1 contains deeds between the church and heirs of John Groseclose. Folder 2 contains correspondence regarding compensation to church for loss of property due to the widening of Route 11 as well as insurance policies.
