Juan Montalvo was an Ecuadorian essayist who lived from April 13, 1832 - January 17, 1889. He was best known for his essays attacking Ecuadorian dictatorship, and spent most of his life in exile, living in other South American countries, and eventually making his way to Europe. Montalvo is one of the most revered writers in Hispanic literature.
