Boatwright Family. Papers, 1932-1973. Accession 41064. Personal papers collection, The Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.
Gift of Bob Spraker, Virginia Department of Transportation, Chantilly, Virginia, 6 January 2004.
Roy G. Boatwright (1895-1966) was born 8 September 1895. He and wife Cynthia (1898-1973) lived in Wise County, Virginia, where Roy was the postmaster for the town of Coeburn. Roy Boatwright died in June 1966, and Cynthia in March 1973.
Papers, 1932-1973 (bulk 1932-1958), belonging to members of the Boatwright family of Coeburn, Wise County, Virginia, including correspondence, photographs, postcards, and an unused 1942 engagement calendar with Virginia scenes. Two groups of letters, 1955 and 1958, are from United States Senator Harry Flood Byrd (1887-1966) and United States House of Representatives member W. Pat Jennings (1919-1994) to Cynthia Boatwright (1898-1973), addressing her concerns for husband Roy G. Boatwright's (1895-1966) job as Coeburn's postmaster. Several group photographs mark youth gatherings of the Holston Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church South, 1935-1937, and a meeting of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, 1941.
