George K. Carlton, of King and Queen County, Virginia, was the brother of Rachel Hughes, of Fluvanna and King William Counties, Virginia. Rachel Hughes was married to John W. Hughes and they had a daughter Camilla J. Carlton.

Includes an indenture for a slave named Claire, from George Carlton to William Hughes, dated 1845 July 18th; the will of Rachel Hughes of King William County, dated 26 February 1876; and correspondence to George K. Carlton, 1897-1931, regarding an oyster business in Virginia.
