James Turner was born 7 May 1759 in Bedford County, Virginia. He became a Presbyterian minister and served a congregation in Bedford County. Turner married Sally Leftwich (1762-1834) 25 August 1778, and they had fourteen children. Turner died 8 January 1828.
Deed of gift, dated 6 July 1822 and recorded 22 February 1828, from James Turner of Bedford County, Virginia, to his granddaughter Musidora Turner of Bedford County, giving her possession of a female slave named Margaret. The deed was witnessed by his daughters Mildred and Nancy Turner. Musidora Turner was the illegitimate daughter of Sally Turner, James Turner's daughter.
