Members of the Jordan family mined iron deposits in Alleghany and Bath Counties, Virginia, where they operated furnaces known as the Australia, Lucy Salina, and Mary Martha. Family members include Edwin Jordan, Hezekiah Jordan, Ira F. Jordan, and James and Robert Skeen.
Records, 1848-1862, concerning furnace operation and production include accounts, bonds, statements of pig iron shipped, correspondence between family members, and receipts.
