Penn's Store. Journal, 1845-1851. Accession 31748, Business records collection, The Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia.
Lent for duplication by Frank R. Penn, 10 February 1983.
The Penn's Store community, located close to the Henry County line, was founded by Thomas Jefferson Penn, son of James Penn. The 1850 Patrick County census lists Thomas J. Penn, age 40, as a merchant. The tobacco factories and stores owned exclusively by the Penn family and the area developed into an important business center. The sons continued to expand the family interests, several moving into the town of Reidsville, North Carolina.
Journal, 1846-1851, has entries for items of a general nature, and notes the name of purchaser, amount of items purchased, and cost.
