William James (1771-1849) and Rebecca Walker James were from Fredericksburg, Virginia, where James was a tailor. About 1810 James was ordained as a Baptist minister and served as first pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Ledger records the accounts for making and mending of clothes, as well as for purchases of clothes, buttons and sewing items. Accounts appear for George French, Goodlove Heiskill, James Lewis, Mann Page, Francis Taliaferro, Richard Taliaferro, Anthony Thornton, among others.
