Biographical/Historical Information

John Albert Jeter (1854-1948), of Bonsack (Roanoke County), Virginia, was the son of Benjamin and Susan Jeter. He married Carrie Ella Musser of Marietta, Pennsylvania, and lived in Bonsack and Salem, Virginia. Benjamin Elliott Jeter (1824-1903) was a physician and farmer in Bonsack, Virginia. His wife, Susan (Bonsack) Jeter (b. 1834), was the daughter of John Bonsack and Susannah (Harshbarger) Bonsack.

Scope and Content Information

Papers, 1872-1883, of John Albert Jeter of Roanoke County, Virginia, including correspondence and a memoranda book. Mainly consists of letters written to Jeter while he was in Kentucky, from his family in Bonsack, Virginia. Topics include money, advice on buying land and planting crops in Kentucky, family, and farm crops and prices in Virginia. Also included are letters to Jeter while he was a student at Roanoke College, Virginia, and when he was working in Chicago, Illinois. The memoranda book includes medical remedies and expense accounts. Included are typed transcripts of the letters and memoranda book.
