Scope and Content Information

Miscellaneous letters consisting of: a) a letter, dated 28 December 1784, from John Fitzgerald (d. 1799) of Alexandria, Virginia, to Tench Tilghman and Company, Baltimore, Maryland, discussing business matters and his account; b) a letter, dated 10 October 1822, from Abel Parker Upshur (1790-1844) of Richmond, Virginia, to Stephen North of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, concerning legal matters; c) a letter dated 22 October 1827, from Charles Copland (ca. 1756-1836) of Richmond to Robert Anderson of Williamsburg, Virginia, asking about a bond Copland had made years before; d) a letter, dated 12 August 1834, from Townes and Hunt, Petersburg, Virginia, to Joseph Reed Ingersoll (1786-1868) of Philadelphia, concerning depositions in a case; e) a letter, dated 30 May 1842, from E. J. Lee, Jr. of Jefferson County, (West) Virginia, to John Farnum of Philadelphia, informing Farnum of the progress in suits of land disputes in which Farnum is involved; f) a letter, dated 7 January 1847, from Samuel D. Campbell of Rockbridge County, Virginia, to M. B. Hope of Philadelphia, concerning magazine subscriptions; g) a letter, dated 13 December 1850, from James H. Jennings of Berkeley County, (West) Virginia, to William H. Mitchell of Philadelphia, concerning magazine subscriptions; and h) a letter, dated 3 March 1851, from Rufus William Bailey (1793-1863) in Winchester, Virginia, to W. Coppinger of Philadelphia, asking for financial assistance to pay for the passage of free African-Americans to Liberia.
