William Barton Stone was born in 1757 in Carroll County, Maryland, to Barton Stone (d. 1786) and Sarah Speake Stone. He moved
to Stafford County, Virginia, where he died in 1793. Stone married Sarah Porter
(1769-1816), and they had had one son Alexander S. H. Stone (d. 1823). Stone father and son are buried in the Ed[r]ington
cemetery in Stafford County. Sarah Porter Stone married second John Catesby Edrington
(1775-1820) and they had children including John Catesby Edrington (1800-1879).
