Biographical Information

Walter S. Dunn (b. ca. 1834) married Mary M. Alvis (b. ca. 1836) in Appomattox County, Virginia, 6 February 1856. Dunn was a superintendent on a canal. He probably died by 1870; in that census, Mary Dunn is listed as living with her parents William A. and Prudence Alvis.

Scope and Content

Papers, 1847-1872, of the Dunn-Alvis family of Buckingham and Appomattox Counties, Virginia, consisting of a notice that the deposition of William B. Goode will be taken 4 March 1847; a letter, 13 June 1850, from H. F. Bocock to William W. Alvis concerning a case Bocock is working on; deeds, 1854-1857, for property in the town of Madison in Amherst County, Virginia, for property in Buckingham County, and for all rights to the estate of William W. Alvis; and a letter, 8 February 1872, from Charles L. Ellis of Amherst County to William W. Alvis concerning a fee for a case.
