These items came to the Library of Virginia in a shipment of court papers from Prince George County.
Prince George County was formed in 1702 from Charles City County.
The deed books of Prince George County in this collection were created by the County Court.
Most court records were destroyed in 1782 by British troops during the Revolutionary War and again in 1864 by Union troops during the Civil War. A few volumes that record deeds, court orders, and wills exist.
Deed Books, 1787-1792, Deeds and etc., 1713-1728 and Deed and C., 1759-1760, of Prince George County Court. The deed books record the name of the grantor and grantee, the residence of both individuals and the description of property being sold or transferred. The volumes have indexes which contains the first and last names of both parties. It is arranged alphabetically from A-Z.
