Lunenburg County was named for George II, duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, a German possession of the Hanoverian kings of England. It was formed from Brunswick County in 1745.
Lunenburg County (Va.) Fee Books, circa 1746-1769, document charges for issuing marriage licenses, recording documents such as deeds and wills, and other fees collected by the county court for the years 1746-1760, 1762, and 1764-1769. Most volumes include an alphabetical index by surname located at the beginning of the volume.
