This item came to the Library of Virginia in a shipment of court papers from Montgomery County.

Historical Information

Montgomery County was formed in 1775 from Fincastle County. Part of Botetourt County was added in 1789 and part of Pulaski County in 1842.

The will book of Montgomery in this collection was created by the County Court.

Scope and Content

Will Book, 1797-1800, of Montgomery County Court. The will book includes the name of testator, list of heirs and the year the wills were proven in court and probate records such as inventories and appraisements. The will book has an index which contains the first and last names of both parties. It is arranged alphabetically from A-Z.
