Historical Information

Nelson County was formed in 1807 from Amherst County. The county was named for Thomas Nelson, Jr., governor of Virginia from June to November 1781.

Nelson County (Va.) County Court Records, 1808-1930, are comprised of the following records types: Execution Books A-E, G-H, J-K, M-N, Fee Books, a Chancery Rules Book, a Quarterly Session Minute Book, a Memorandum Book, a Receipt Book for Chancery Causes Taken Out, a Law Rules Book, a Chancery Fee Book, a Law Issue Docket Book and a Warrant Book.
