Virgilina is a town in Halifax County. It was incorporated as a town in 1900. Virgilina was once a copper mining town. It is named Virgilina because it is located on the Virginia and North Carolina border.
Virgilina (Va.) Town Council Minute Book, 1900-1913, records the official business of the town council of Virgilina. Beginning with a copy of the act to incorporate the town of Virgilina in 1900, the remainder of the volume contains the business of the town including election of town officers, investigations of town officer malfeasance, committee appointments, ordinances, taxes and licenses, financial reports, town fire protection, and maintenance of infrastructure such as street lamps, streets and sidewalks, and buildings such as the jail and a school.
