Genealogical research collection, completed by Joyce Ruff in 2010, chiefly consisting of information on individuals with the Ruff surname, and variations of the name including Roff, Roffe, Rolfe, Rough, and Ruffe. Includes correspondence on family history, family group sheets, photographs, and copies and transcripts of census records, cemetery records, land records, marriage records, and obituaries. Also includes a booklet prepared by Joyce Ruff in 2005, entitled "Cemeteries in the Mountain, Bedford, Virginia: In Memory of Our Deceased. "
Files are organized by geographic region, with Virginia information broken down by locality and the rest organized by U. S. state. Virginia localities include: Amherst, Albemarle, Alleghany, Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charles City, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Elizabeth City, Fluvanna, Franklin, Gloucester, Halifax, Highland, Loudoun, Lunenburg, Mathews, Nelson, Orange, Prince George, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Surry, and Washington Counties; and Lynchburg, Petersburg, and Williamsburg. Other states include: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Collection came to the Library of Virginia housed in binders. File arrangement follows the order in which files appeared in original binders. It is alphabetized for the most part with some deviations.
