The Virginia State Boxing and Wrestling Commission was established by an act of the General Assembly approved March 29, 1934 to direct, manage, and control all aspects related to wrestling, boxing and sparring in the Commonwealth. The name was change to the Virginia Athletic Commission by an act passed on March 11, 1952, and then to the Virginia Athletic Board in 1985. In 1998 the General Assembly passed legislation creating the Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program operating under the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation to handle the duties of the earlier commissions and board. In 2007, the Board was changed to add martial arts to its charge.
This series provides the official minutes and related attachments of the Virginia Professional Boxing, Wrestling, and Martial Arts Board. May also include informal fact finding conference documents and conflict of interest statements.
