Gift of Steven M. Reiss, Irvington, Virginia, in honor of his parents Rose and Jack Reiss.
The Pope-Leighey House was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) for Loren Brooks Pope (1910-2008) of Falls Church, Virginia, and built in 1939-1940. Pope sold the house to Robert Leighey (1901-1963) and Marjorie Leighey (1908-1983) in 1946. In 1964, the house was condemned for the construction of Interstate 66. Marjorie Leighey donated the structure to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and it was relocated to the property of Woodlawn Plantation (owned by the National Trust) in 1965 and Leighey resided in the house until her death. The house was shifted 30 feet in 1995. It is owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Series II: Marjorie Leighey papers contain articles, correspondence, invoices, and other documents regarding Marjorie Leighey's efforts to save the house from demolition and her donation of the house to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Papers also concern the landscaping of the house by landscape architect Rose Greely after the Leigheys bought it in 1947, as well as Marjorie Leighey's time as a missionery in Japan and her life after the house was saved and moved to Woodlawn Plantation.
Series III: Frank Lloyd Wright papers contain the correspondence of Frank Lloyd Wright with Loren Pope regarding the construction of a house for the Popes, as well as correspondence between Wright and Gordon Chadwick, the onsite architect. Letters are copies from the Getty Research Institute. The originals are housed at the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Also contains general information on Frank Lloyd Wright.
Series IV: Pope-Leighey House Reports and Papers contains specs for the Loren Pope House as planned in 1940; correspondence, 1962-1965 of the architects of Taliesin West regarding the preservation efforts for the Pope-Leighey House; and architectural reports, 1987 and 1992, regarding the structure of the house.
Series V: Pope-Leighey House Oral History Sessions contain oral histories of persons involved with the original construction of the house and of persons involved with the relocation of the house to Woodlawn Plantation.
Series VI: Articles, Papers, Other Documents contain articles, correspondence, drawings, maps, and other papers regarding the Pope-Leighey House, Frank Lloyd Wright, Loren Pope, and Marjorie Leighey, including articles and talks by Pope. Includes layouts of the house and maps of its location in Falls Church.
Series VII: Photographs and slides contain images of the construction of the Pope-Leighey House, its move, and its restoration. Photographs and slides also include images of the Loren Pope family and Marjorie Leighey. Also contain images of other Frank Lloyd Wright works such as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan, Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pennsylvania, and the Joseph Euchtman House in Baltimore, Maryland.
Series VIII: Final Book Draft contains the draft of Steven M. Reiss's Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House , including images and captions.
Series IX: Book Research Correspondence contains Steven M. Reiss's correspondence with individuals regarding his research for his book Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House including current and former employees of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, scholars,and family and friends of Loren Pope and Marjorie Leighey.
Series X: General contains articles, correspondence, essays, interviews, manuscript drafts, maps, photographs, reports, research papers, speeches, and other documents and papers gathered Steven M. Reiss while conducting research for his book Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey House .
Series XI: Audio-Visual Materials contain VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, and cassette tapes documenting the Pope-Leighey House through interviews and documentaries on the house and on Frank Lloyd Wright.
Series XII Drawings and plans contain drawings and blueprints for the Pope-Leighey House regarding its construction, landscaping, move, and restoration work.
