Gift of Jim Greve, Madison, Wisconsin.
Edward Zea was born in 1829 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. He became a merchant, first as part of Zea and Pirkey and then as Zea, Crawford and Company. Zea married Sarah Willie McCord (1838-1896) 29 April 1858 and they had nine children. Zea died 6 February 1904 in Shenandoah County and is buried in the Strasburg Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Papers, 1850-1912, of Edward Zea (1829-1904) of Shenandoah County, Virginia, containing accounts, invoices, letters, orders, promissory notes, and tax records documenting Zea's occupation as a merchant. Includes accounts and correspondence of Henry R. McCord (1834-1923) of Harrison County, (West) Virginia, as guardian for Catharine L. McCord (1836-1921) and Sarah W. McCord (Zea) (1838-1896). Also includes sermon notes, possibly by Reverend John Pirkey (1816-1887), who was also a business partner of Edward Zea.
