Biographical/Historical Information

Ed Turner was appointed Special Advisor on Disability Issues in the Workplace in September of 2006 and served until January 2010. This position was located within the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human resources and served as a senior advisor to Governor Tim Kaine on disability employment policy. Turner served as the Governor's representative on the Virginia Disability Commission, as a liaison to Olmstead Initiative activities, and worked closely with the Senior Advisor for Workforce Issues. The special advisor also served as an advocate to advance disability employment and community integration, and as a liaison to the disability community.

Scope and Content

Records of the Special Advisor on Disability Issues in the Workplace, 2006-2010, contain correspondence and subject files created and maintained by Special Advisor Ed Turner. Some records may pre-date Mr. Turner's time of appointment, but were collected and filed during his tenure. Contains a variety of files pertaining to disability issues such as employment, independent living, rehabilitation, support, training and transportation, and includes records documenting the Community Integration Advisory Commission, Community Integration Implementation Team, Spinal Cord Injury Institute, Virginia Disability Commission and Virginia Workforce Council. Records include correspondence, meeting and conference materials, memoranda, presentations and reports.
