Charles Hutzler was born 26 October 1849 in Richmond, Virginia, to Abraham Hutzler (1811-1889) and Yetta Millhiser Hutzler (1814-1888). Hutzler served as president of three banks, including the Central National Bank. He was a prominent Jewish leader in Richmond and a member of Congregation Beth Ahabah. Hutzler served as school board chairman for Richmond schools and as president of the Prison Association of Virginia. Hutzler married Jeanette Millhiser (1850-1910) and they had five children, only one which survived to adulthood. Hutzler died in Richmond 6 December 1919 and was buried in Hebrew Cemetery in Richmond.
Papers, 1780-1960 (bulk 1891-1912), of Charles Hutzler (1849-1919) of Richmond, Virginia, consisting of Hutzler's autograph collection, personal correspondence, material on Richmond Public Schools, the Prison Association, and the Laurel Industrial School. Correspondence, clippings, and memoranda form the bulk of the files. Photographs were removed, copied, and the copies are housed in the Picture collection, The Library of Virginia.
