As other local history organizations became more involved in Northern Virginia history, the history department ceased collecting material.
This collection contains materials on the history of Northern Virginia, including "Northern Virginia Heritage," a George Mason University local history journal from the 1980s, a few dozen issues of "The Courier," newsletter for the Northern Virginia Association of Historians, and eight boxes of newsclippings dating from 1911-1970, which were compiled by the GMU History Department in the 1970s.
This collection is arranged by date and subject.
Special Collections and Archives holds many other collections on the history of Northern Virginia.
