Jacob Henry Hinkins (1845-1923) was a lifelong resident of Strasburg, Virginia. He was a farmer for the bulk of his life with the exception of the four years he served during the Civil War. Hinkins fought for the Confederacy as a member of Company E, 11th Virginia Cavalry Regiment. In 1868, Hinkins married Salome Kern with whom he had four children.
The account book documents the activities of Jacob Hinkins' farming business from 1879 to 1893. The account book is arranged by patron name with entries listed chronologically. Entries describe the work completed and goods sold and purchased with columns for debits and credits. Surnames represented in the accounts book include Ramey, Stickley, Coffman, Good, Combs, Huff, Leake, and others.
