This collection, which initially belonged to Lillian Cheatham, was acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with Longwood University's Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when the collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
Lillian Lee Cheatham was born in 1882 in Farmville, Virginia to Ben E. Cheatham, a locomotive engineer, and his wife Eugenie. In 1897, Cheatham began attending then State Female Normal School in Farmville, and earned her diploma in 1901. After graduation, Lillian Cheatham taught in Prince Edward County, Dinwiddie County, Augusta County, Tazewell County, and Chesterfield County before moving to Norfolk, Virginia where she remained until her death in 1952.
This collection, which dates from ca. 1901, consists of three pieces of jewelry owned by Lillian Lee Cheatham while a student at then State Female Normal School in Farmville.
