Biographical / Historical

The institute of southern culture was Established in 1956 promoting scholarship on traditional aspects of southern society, culture, and history. It was Initially funded by the Longwood College Alumnae Association. It was created with the idea to give informative lectures and presentations and would occasionally bring in guest speakers for additional reference. The Institute of Southern Culture had several published lectures and research that was completed, historically recognized, as well as recognized in references. The Institute of southern culture ended in 1976.

This collection contains information relating to the Institute of Southern Culture's finances, administrative records, correspondences, lectures, publications, and programming and promotion. Items in the collection consist of paper documents with dates ranging from 1955-1976.
