Processing Information
This collection is only partially processed, New folders and some evaluation still needs to be completed on this collection.
JLK thinks that these materials are acutally from Patrick Finnegan's secretary which she kept for her records, so they are
related to Patrick Finnegan, but aren't enteirly created by him.
Patrick Finnegan was the 25th president of Longwood University from 2010 to 2012. He came to
the University after serving as the chief academic officer at the United States Military Academy
at West Point, his alma mater. He held the rank of Brigadier General and for many years was an
Army lawyer who wrote articles and gave presentations on military law, torture, and terrorism.
Among his accomplishments at Longwood are the creation of an academic strategic plan through
a campus wide collaborative process, securing membership in the Big South Conference for the
athletics program and creating an Office of Sponsored Programs and Research to seek funding
for the faculty's scholarly activities. Finnegan resigned for health reasons in 2012.
The collection includes, correspondence, memoriabilia and a few photographs related to President Finnegan's time at Longowood.
This collection is a relatively small amout of materials related to Presidne't Finnegan's time at Longwood, other records
are not currenlty part of the Greenwood Library Archvies.
The correspondence in this collection is mostly related to congratulatory and other miscelanous notes, and is very limited.
This series does not represent administrative or business related correspondence.
